Top compartment opens down and two compartments that open on the bottom with an additional compartment for the ink well. (No contents or bottles included).
A very rare and exceptional example of an early lap desk. This was from the days where this was a necessity for everyone to have to keep writing supplies in.

Great condition for its age, some general surface wear as expected but unfortunately doesn't have the original key or lock but closes fine. Beautiful velvet interior which remains remarkably clean, just some surface wear at the catch area.
